A catharsis for our struggles, yet a vessel for our joy. Navigating through COVID, the magic of becoming a new parent, undergoing a vital leg amputation, recovering from car accidents, losing loved ones and forming new friendships have all shaped this music. The Skints
London four-piece, The Skints, have clawed their way up from the depths of the underground punk/ska scene to a unique fixture on the global reggae stage. Drawing influences as wide as soul, pop, grime and hardcore, their original brand of “tropical punk” has seen them evolve in to one of the hardest working and most respected bands in UK music.
Formed while at school in 2007, The Skints hail from the Waltham Forest and Redbridge boroughs of North East London, and they cut their teeth in London’s underground punk scene before venturing out of the M25 to play their first self-booked DIY venture and embark on a heaving touring regime across the nation’s “toilet venue” circuit.
Debut album ‘Live, Breathe, Build, Believe’, released at the end of 2009, received late night/specialist rotation across radio including BBC Radio 1's Punk Show, whilst 2012’s ‘Part & Parcel’, was the second full-length album by the band and further built their fan base and opened doors to heavy touring, festivals and markets outside of the UK and across Europe. Aries
If you know jungle, then you’ll be all too familiar with Aries and the roads he’s travelled. With a career spanning more than 30 years, Aries has cemented his place as a much-loved pillar of the scene during his rise. From being a globally renowned DJ who has performed in over 35 countries, to sitting proudly at the helm of one drum and bass’ most exciting new wave D&B labels in Born On Road, it’s fair to say Aries has earned his reputation as an artist at the forefront of the scene.
It’s a journey that started in the ‘90s with a desire to fly the flag for the growing culture he loves, and it’s one that has since seen the midlands-born artist become a multi-award winning name. Aries has spread the dub-wise strain of jungle to audiences as far as the USA and Australia through DJing on countless sound systems and crafting well known productions such as ‘Herbsmoke’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’.
While jungle will always be the heartbeat behind Aries’ history in the scene, championing fresh sounds is the driver of this artist’s ambition. It’s the reason why you’ll regularly see Aries laying down electric D&B sets on the biggest stages of the international festival circuit alongside his Born on Road family. Through his label ventures, Aries has been connecting with a new generation of ravers – educating an appreciation for the culture and roots he cut his teeth in, while creating a legacy for future generations to be a part of.
After years spent navigating the roads of the scene, you’d be forgiven for thinking Aries might be slowing down, but we’re only going to see him work up through the gears from here on out. Whether its his desire to take Born On Road from being a locally celebrated label in Bristol to an acclaimed imprint worldwide, or his motivation to push his own music output to new levels, there’s no doubting the road ahead will see Aries evolve as an artist while continuing to build on the legacy he has already created.

Drumsound & Bassline Smith
The Drumsound & Bassline Smith pedigree runs deep.
As a team, they've occupied a top tier position in the drum 'n' bass scene since thenineties but the roots were already well established by then. Before the Drumsoundcombined with the Bassline, the first chapters of their story were already written. You see, Simon Bassline Smith had been doing this for years before the team-up withDrumsound. Coming up in the early eighties heyday of rare groove funk and soul, he'sbeen intimately associated with the UK underground music scene as it evolved fromsoundsystem-led blues parties, to raves, festivals, and mainstream acceptance. And realheads know about the recently-relaunched Absolute2 label, with its string of releases in thepre-jungle rave days from names like Doc Scott, Ray Keith, and even Orbital. The BasslineSmith biography stretches through the entire history of hardcore, jungle, and then drum 'n'bass.
“Drumsound” used to be a collective of six producers, with the torch now being carried byAndy Wright. A classically-trained musician with and indie rock background, his musicalinfluences were already wide and varied before he even started making moves in DnB.With that melding of styles – reminiscent of the earliest days of rave – perhaps it's nowonder that, after only a year's worth of productions, the Drumsound crew were able tocatch the attention of already-legendary Simon Bassline Smith in 1998.
Since creating Technique Recordings in 1999, the combined powers of Drumsound &Bassline Smith have made an indelible mark on drum 'n' bass, and dance music ingeneral. Scouring the globe for talent, they've helped turn artists like Tantrum Desire,Document One, L Plus, and Youngman into household names among DnB cognoscenti aswell as bringing the world music from luminaries like Roni Size, Crissy Criss, Matrix &Futurebound, The Prototypes, Bladerunner and more.
Dogger
Rob ‘Dogger’ Smith the London-based Mancunian delivering liquid drum & bass steeped in soul.
His musical landscape has been shaped by where he grew up. Manchester’s foreboding skies and frequent rain clouds mean, like so many Mancunian musicians that have come before him, he connects to music with a melancholy undertone, that’s provocative and emotional.
Dogger got into DJing, and later producing, on discovering and falling in love with jungle, tracks of influence collide, specifically in drum & bass legends Calibre and the late, great, Marcus Intalex. Beyond these Smith’s influences span David Lynch, Joy Division and Björk, as well as Alix Perez, whose label has now released his music with collaborative partner Mindstate.
Mindstate
Mindstate (David Snaddon) – UK drum and bass producer from London releasing music on 1985 Music / Space Cadet / Precinct & TNQ – Delivering liquid drum & bass steeped in soul. Growing up on the coast has influenced the chilled, blissed-out and hypnotic aspect of his sound. Influenced specifically in drum & bass by legends Calibre who h’s recently remixed Mindstateʼs track “Broken Home” a collaborative project with Dogger and Liam Bailey on 1985 Music, the late, great, Marcus Intalex/ Lenzman/ Ed Rush and Optical and Alix Perez. Beyond these, artists such ‘s Bonobo, Gang Starr and The Pharcyde. Mindstate likes his music stripped back, allowing space for the vocal line to shine.
The vocals bring warmth and soul to Dogger & Mindstateʼs crisp and atmospheric production — with watery pads and bright chord progressions, itʼs liquid at its most emotive, and its most meditative. Recent releases consist of “Different Roads” on TNQ – produced by Mindstate and Dogger featuring UK rappers Verbz and Sleazy F Baby. “TMWFTE” with DRS and Dogger on 1985, and most recently a solo single on Precinct called “Get A Move On” featuring Verbz, ‘ truly Hip Hop/Jazz infused drum and bass project.
Fabio & Grooverider
Fabio and Grooverider, the Godfathers of Drum & Bass and legends of modern music who are idolised worldwide. Industry heavyweights, fans and artists regardless of genre will readily respect and praise the ongoing influence of the two.
Since aligning professionally over 30 years ago, Fabio & Grooverider have been at the forefront of a genre which just seems to get stronger and more ‘global’ year on year, with household names such as Chase & Status, Wilkinson & Sub Focus smashing the top 40 to pieces. These are just a few names that received their initial exposure from the pair on their 14 Year Award winning show on BBC Radio 1.
The scene in general owes much to Fabio & Grooverider’s dedication, focus and longevity. They were part of the very few UK DJs to first play House music, and to then fuse and formulate something entirely new which would eventually evolve into Jungle/Drum and Bass. It is no understatement to say that the respective streams and offshoots of D&B that Fabio & Grooverider both represent from those early times now stretch so wide - liquid, jump up, technical, minimal and half-time styles to name a few – that it’s effectively the fabric of D&B itself.
Fabio & Grooverider were voted in the top 25 Greatest DJs of all time in a recent Mixmag poll, and December 2015 saw the pair win the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to music award at DJ Mag’s Best of British awards.
From their first venture into pirate radio on Phase 1 a simple template was established: fuel the energy of the streets, the illegal, massively-attended raves of the late 80s – legendary raves such as Fantasia, Biology and Sunrise – instantly back to the airwaves. The early days of ‘Jungle Techno’ gradually became the world’s first weekly Jungle night at Rage in London, where the boundaries were pushed into the red every week, so much so that the scene became notoriously hard, even intimidating.
S.P.Y
Moving to London from São Paulo, S.P.Y was quick to establish himself within UK Drum & Bass due to a natural talent for production that saw his first ever release signed to Metalheadz. During his time there he won multiple awards for his releases and remixes and in 2021 he launched his new label DARKMTTR as an outlet for his own productions as well as collaborations and guests.
DJing worldwide on a regular basis, S.P.Y is able to showcase his well-loved sound that is diverse, unique in quality, and perfectly suited for the dancefloor. Felon
One of the major divisions in drum 'n' bass emceeing has always been host versus lyricist. Some mic controllers play curator and let the music do the talking. Others come locked and loaded to shell a rave down with a pad full of bars. It's only an exceptional few that can perform both roles to an equally high level.
Felon is one of those stand-out artists.
Since winning “Best Breakthrough MC” at the 2014 Drum & Bass Awards, Felon has become a regular fixture on the scene's biggest and most exclusive stages, regularly working with the upper echelon of selectors. As well as his many, many sets rolling out with legends Fabio & Grooverider, he's hosted for Andy C, Goldie, and pretty much any other DnB god you could name.
Discovering the craft in the late nineties – when original-generation crowd-hyping hardcore emcees were sharing stages with the new double-time rhymers like Skibadee and, later, Eksman – Felon always saw both elements of the craft as equally essential. The balance of hosting and bars, the ability to command a crowd as well as spit lyrics, was central to the style that he developed and why he's been able to bridge the gap between sounds and sub-genres so effortlessly.
Having performed for audiences all over the world, including multiple tours of Australia, several Glastonbury appearances, bookings in South Africa, the USA, Thailand and many more, Felon has proven himself as one of the scene's top tier mic men many times over the last decade. On jump-up, liquid, tech, dancefloor, or whatever other style you like, he's demonstrated the expertise and experience to hype any party.

From the vibrant heritage of several distinct musical worlds, the Gypsyndicate sound weaves together traditional melodies with complex rhythms of ancient lands, adorned with the raw power and intensity of heavy metal, hip-hop and hardtek. Pushing ethnofusion forward into its inevitable marriage with the UK rave scene, they bring the sarangi to the soundsystem and the darbuka to the dancefloor.

2022 marked a string of successes for Flight as she celebrated 25 years of playing exquisite sets to music fans across the globe. The ’25 Years of Flight’ European tour culminated with a blistering b2b set with DJ Storm at Boiler Room Festival Amsterdam, a monumental two-hour soundscape that has amassed over 600,000 views on YouTube so far. Flight closed off the year with a DJ Mag award for ‘Outstanding Contribution’ to dance music while Mixmag named her one of the ‘DJs Who Defined The Year’.
This year, ‘Turn It Up: A Short History of Drum & Bass’, a BBC Sounds documentary produced and narrated by Flight, was nominated in the ‘Best Music Special’ category at Radio Academy’s ARIAS. This radio production followed ‘Windrush Stories’, an award-winning podcast series that garnered widespread acclaim for its beautiful exploration of the Caribbean experience in Britain.
Flight has a rare mystical talent that transcends time and space. For over a quarter of a century, her star has been in ascendance. Flight’s influence on the scene has been immense and in March the New York Times wrote of her inspiration to a whole new generation of artists, including Nia Archives.
Flight regularly plays at Rupture and residencies have included Metalheadz and Swerve. She has produced music with Breakage, and released on labels such as Reinforced, Bassbin, Critical, The North Quarter, and Carbon. In 2005, Flight started her own label – play:musik – which launched the career of several up and coming producers.
